Nappa Hall

Nappa Hall

Nappa Hall is a fortified manor house standing 1 mile east of Askrigg. There was an earlier house on the site, but the mjority of the present Hall was constructed by Thomas Metcalfe during the 1470s. It was home to generations of their family and for centuries afterwards. Nappa Hall is a Grade I listed building and not open to the public.

It is supposedly haunted by Mary, Queen of Scots. Local lore has it that she stayed there for a couple of nights in 1568. However, whether this is another of her haunts, or possibly that of a different apparition, we can only wonder.
